The Last of the Milkmen

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Very few of us can personally recall the days of the milk deliveryman (okay, maybe a few of you diehards in suburbia do) but the rest of us have taken it for granted that milk stockpiled in supermarkets after being trucked from major milk manufacturing facilities.

But here I am clicking away at the TV and NBC’s show “NY Nonstop” is showing a segment called “Manhattan Milk Men”.

Got milk? They do.

All sexual innuendos aside, there is a professional dairy product delivery service in New York City.

And business is good.

With a growing group of consumers interested in organic foods, the “Manhattan Milk Men” have secured themselves a firm customer base.  According to their website description, the milk delivery company offers “organic glass bottled milk, organic cage free eggs, glass hormone-free milk, cases of water, juices, and assorted dairy products.”

The source of their produce?  Fifty-one Amish families from Dutch County, Pennsylvania.  If it’s the Amish you can be pretty sure they don’t use pesticides or growth hormones.

The team here at Diners.org will do a more extensive review of the dairy products  from “Manhattan Milk Man” at a later date, but we welcome comments and opinions from those of you who sampled them already.

You can read more about the “Manhattan Milk Men” here.  You can also watch the NBC NY Nonstop segment I saw below.  Or click here if the video doesn’t work.

Energy to drink, not to drive

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Many people during the holidays go out and party, drink and enjoy the night. Everyone needs a chance to relax, but many of those people cannot stand the harsh taste of hard liquor and like to mix things up a bit. A splash of excitement to not only make it taste better but lower the content of the liquor, but according to WebMD mixed drinks such as Jagerbombs, and Ruby RedBull that contain energy drinks might be more dangerous then people think.  The energy drinks counteracts the drowsy effects of alcohol but does not help in the sobering of a person. Many people at that point will either drink more then they usually would because the signs of drinking aren’t as apparent as they would be without it and many are fooled to thinking they are sober enough to drive.

It’s become so popular that they have created a way to mix large quantities of Jagerbombs in a theatrical manner.

The JagerTrain!

they would be able to create a large amount out drinks that are meant to be finished in seconds. It’s become so dangerous some countries have banned the mixing of energy drinks and alcohol, the united states is also trying to ban alcoholic energy drinks, such as Sparks and Joose. The problem is that the FDA regulates the amount of caffine in soft drinks, however the amount of caffine for alcohol is unregulated thus making it quite dangerous. For more information on energy drinks and alcohol visit here, and for more information on the ban of energy drinks and alcohol visit here.
